Usually, the first thing people tell us when they want to know if their boiler needs replaced, is how old their current boiler is. The thing is that, like people, no two boilers age the same way! A ten year old boiler that is used moderately and serviced every year may be in better condition than the five year old boiler of a young family which is never serviced and run constantly. When we look at your boiler, age is not the only thing we’ll take into consideration. We consider how efficient it is and, perhaps more importantly, how safe it is.Â
If you don’t need a new boiler, The Installation Centre team will not recommend one! If all your boiler needs is a service, that’s what we’ll give you. We’re a friendly, honest team and pride ourselves on that.
There are some obvious signs that a boiler may need replaced, so if you are calling us out for a free consultation, here are a few things to make our team aware of:
1. Regular Problems
If you are constantly having to restart your boiler, or adjust the pressure, or if your plumber recognises your number when you call, it is probably a sign that something isn’t right! Even one breakdown or problem a year with your boiler could be a sign that it is time to replace it with a new one, as the costs of call outs and parts for even minor repairs can soon mount up. Many of our boilers come with very long manufacturer warranties – like our Ideal boilers which currently offer 12 year warranties! Peace of mind for 12 years could be worth the inconvenience of a new boiler. So let us know any problems that you’ve been facing so we can take a good look at what is going on.
2. Higher bills
If you’ve noticed your energy bills have started to sneak up each month, it is likely that your boiler is not running as well as it used to, and is now wasting more energy to produce the same amount of heat each time. A new energy-efficient boiler will save you money on your energy bills and cost less to run every day, so tell us if you’ve noticed a big jump in your fuel costs.
3. Funny noises or smells
No boiler is noiseless – but if something has started to sound different, that could be a sign of a problem. There’s nothing to lose in getting it checked, so get in touch if you are not sure.
Remember, if you ever smell anything strange when you use your boiler, turn it off immediately and call the
UK emergency gas number on 0800 111 999.
4. Water drips
Your boiler should not leak water – ever! There are electrics inside your boiler and an untreated water drip could cause big problems.
These are just some signs and symptoms of a boiler that should be replaced, but they aren’t the only ones. If your engineer is struggling to find parts, or you find yourself constantly fiddling with the water pressure, temperature or radiator thermostats, these are sure signs that your boiler is coming to the end of use.
Don’t wait for a problem to happen, get in touch with The Installation Centre today and we promise to give you an honest opinion on whether you need a service, or a new gas boiler.
